It works with the full version of Microsoft Word on most Apple Mac computers (but please note that it doesn't yet work on iPads or iPhones).Like our original GaelSpell for Windows and our Anois Irish grammar checker for Windows, hopefully this helps make it easier for even more people to write as Gaeilge.![]() Using the grammar, writing style, and as we scroll through them, a number that will not be checked, like using the passive voice, you can see wordiness, some other things down below that pop up quite often, like unnecessary commas. Now from here, we can change the writing style from grammar to refinements, but as you can see there are a number of things that will be checked. Go ahead and click the settings button. So all we have to do now is leave it at grammar and refinements, click OK. Wordiness is checked off, the rest can be checked off by you or deselected if you want to ignore them. You're going to notice with that, there are different options that are selected like nominalizations for example. ![]() When we do, it's replaced, and we arrive at the next issue, 'inovation'. Let's go ahead and click change. With that suggested replacement selected down below, now we can choose to change it, change all occurrences of the word 'bilt' to 'built', with a u, but sometimes maybe it should be 'belt', so just changing once is a good option for this. Moves on to the next one: 'comitment'. In this case, we want to replace it with the correct spelling we'll select innovation with two 'n's here in the suggestions box and click change. Notice we can also choose to ignore this, ignore every occurrence of the word innovation with one 'n', or even add it to the dictionary. I'm gonna go with telecommunication, and change. So, should it be telecommunication companies, or telecommunications companies? That's up to you. It's going to skip over this address, we saw that was one of the options in our settings, and then we arrive at 'telecomunication', and if we move this around you can see it's in the background. The next thing we'll want to do is save our changes of course. We'll click OK, knowing now that our document is better than it was before we ran the spelling and grammar checker. Zero percent passive sentences, that's good. And then down below, readability, you can see, using the Flesch reading ease scale, set to 39.1 there's the Flesch-Kincaid grade level, looking at 12.6 as a grade level for this particular document. When we click OK, we see those readability statistics: the number of words, characters, paragraphs, and sentences, the average sentences per paragraph, et cetera. So proof-reading is still necessary, but a lot of the work's already been done for us thanks to the spelling and grammar checker, here in Word on the Mac. There still may be words that aren't misspelled, they're just the wrong word in the wrong place, for example.
